They must have been walking around with their eyes closed if they concluded that the average 2 bed flat in Dec 2006 was Dh80,000 a year.

As I've said many many times before best bet is to try and negotiate a typical property in your pay deal - ie 2 bed apartment, 3/4/5 bedroom villa instead of a housing allowance that way you don't need to worry about rents

Re: Pay, Inflation and Mobility
I got it written into my contract that my rent be reviewed annually with a 15% rise.
That way, they dont want to see my contract, just every Jan and July i get my 6 monthly advance and it automatically increases by 15%, even if my rent doesnt.
Fortunately, the Oil and Gas / marine sector is booming, so we can be pretty ruthless in our negotiations. It is an employee's market.

the problem is if you can't afford what your in there isn't really anywhere to move to if that makes sense

Don't know why more big companies don't rent on mass and have company accommodation (not like labour camps I don't mean ) more like Emirates do - must be more beneficial to both employer and employee I would think

My DH company are building a brand new labour camp for their workforce but the management still have to see to themselves, though the majority of them are on Al Nakeel as it is owned by the sponsor.
