doesn't bare thinking about. They couldn't cope if there was a fire in one of the towers anywhere in Dubai. It was bad enough when Jumeirah Lakes Towers happened, and that wasn't full of people. Half of the older buildings don't even have water sprinklers in them. It still amazes me that people come out here to live and even retire and don't look into the actual infrastructure. If my apartment was on fire how long would it take for me to get out? and how long before emergency services came? If I have a heart attack how quick will I be able to receive treatment??? etc. People just don't think about the bigger picture. :)

Firstly, it's just as well the place aint fully inhabited yet, with the ensuing gridlock.

And secondly, surely a fire on one of the world islands will be the same as a fire on one of the resorts in the Maldives for example?

Oh and who's Chelsea Warwick/Gulf News reader - cummon W10 how much did you pay her.....

No need...Submerge one end of the hose into the seawater, and inhale from the other end till water arrives, then you have smooth flow of water to put out the BBQ...

valid point about the Maldives, I bet all the staff on the resorts have had some sort of fire safety training etc though. And single story bungalows won't go up like a tower block will say for example.
