Overland to EU via Iran...

Hey... Has anyone caught a ferry to Iran then driven up and across through Turkey and into Europe, final destination Holland?
Cheers.

I did more or less the reverse trip (UK to Kuwait). But I was only 7 at the time....

From memory, the mountain roads between Iran & Turkey are pretty trecherous. Not sure about how easy visas & border crossings would be, either.

If you find out any details, do share. I would like to do an Iran road trip (ferry to Iran, tour around & then return to Dubai/Sharjah).

read They Saddle Dogs by Greg Hunt. He drove from Abu Dhabi to London, via KSA and Egypt etc. Really good book

I'd love to go back to Iran before the war.

I was there as a baby :)

If my plan ever evolves beyond the pipe-dream stage, I'll give you a shout...

I want to check out Isfahan, the remains of Persepolis, the Zoroastrian temple - not that it's the only place in the world with an ancient culture, but i think the context would make an interesting experience.

it's only 12 hours by ferry from Sharjah to Bandar-e-abbas!

I'd settle for a day or two in Kish to begin with, and that gets over the visa headache too

Road trip or flights only? I read that the ferry company will arrange your visa & car tax. Will try to find the link...

I was going to fly - Tehran, Shiraz, Esfahan.

I found one company which can guarantee visas quickly for around $250. It can take time I think.

A friend spent two months getting his visa (although he was going for work)
