Any particular part of Oman? It's a decent sized country... ;)

I am sure Original Sunshine will be along at some point as she's our Oman/Muscat expert.

I feel pretty confident in predicting that you will enjoy Oman (presumably Muscat) a great deal more than you enjoyed Riyadh, assuming you are a westerner. Good luck with the move.

thanks for replying, yes muscat. have enjjoyed living in Riyadh but read for a move for OH job and kids schooling. just want ideas where abouts in muscat's best to live, been told good and bad about 'the wave'?

Re: Oman

depends on school and job

muscat (google earth it) is a spread of many villages joined together in an urban sprawl that can take over 90 minutes to drive from Athaiba (where the Wave is) to Muttrah (where the port is)

Oman is an interesting place., Used to be the centre of an Empire that stretched down the East Coast of Africa. Influence from Africa is obvious when in Oman. Those of Omani origin were the ruling class in Zanzibar until the revolution there.

Funny, isn't it ... we live at The Wave and have been told that we live at Seeb, Al Mawaleh, Al Hail but never at Athaiba.

To the OP, we're retired and don't have children either which is why we haven't replied before now. However one of our neighbours has children who are at ABA (and she's a teaching assistant there) and says that the journey is no big deal.

Personally speaking, though, we spent nearly seven years in DXB and moved to MCT last June and we love it. We had a great time in DXB but we're having an even better time in MCT. That's just us though ... we like a fairly quiet life - which is why we've just dropped our fourth set of visitors since the end of January at the airport for their flight back to the UK.

No worries Meow - we're still newcomers and still finding our way around to a degree. And as I said we have no children so original sunshine is probably more able to help the OP on that front.

However, to the OP, there seem to be lots of children around who, in the better weather certainly make good use of the play areas and, most definitely, the beach. And there seem to be several groups of mums who get together at Costa on a regular basis after the school run. Would recommend that you register with The Wave discussion forum if you have further questions about The Wave.
