Smile Offshore Dubai and UK Tax??????

Hi People I'm new to this site so bear with me..

I've been offered a job Offshore Dubai on a 28 days on 28 days off rotation. I have a small family so will be coming home to the UK every rotation.
I will be working for a Dubai based company and paid in either US Dollars or AED
into a Dubai account.
Whats the best way to avoid UK tax or pay as little UK tax as possible.

I would really appreciate any advice on this.

Thanks

If you spend half the year in the Uk you will be UK resident for tax purpose and will be liable for UK income tax on all of your overseas earnings. You cannot avoid paying tax in that situation.

Under the new Statutory Residency Test which comes into effect from 6th April 2013, and making certain assumptions from what you have said, you would be able to spend no more than 45 days in the UK if you don't want to pay UK tax.

Simples, read HMRC6 Section 8.5.

Best start your contract before 5th April 2013 and work at least until 6th April 2014, limit your visits to the UK, otherwise full UK tax and Ni for you.

Set up a limited company and have the money paid into that. You and your wife get paid dividends, perhaps with combination of a salary. That's what I did some time ago, don't know if its the best solution in your current situation and with current rules.

As with everything specialist, get specialist advice--I suggest you PM Meow and be prepared to pay properly for proper advice.

i work offshore also. I believe its 90 days in the uk and not 45 days maximum???

I live in dubai so it doesnt really affect me but on paper, i am still classed as a UK resident so i make sure i am well below the 90days per year.

if you live in spain for example like many of my UK colleagues, its 180 days per year maximum in the country without paying tax, so your rotation generally allows for non tax payment.

Not sure what you refer to ref the 45 days but if its earlier post the poster does state 45 days from April 2013

I was reading through the blog. It's not as simple as i thought now. You can still have the 90 day rule but several other factors involved including ownership of house etc.

as i said, i am still only in the uk around 28-35days a year max at present so should not really affect me anyway.

The one on the link is correct (& is my work address), but I'm about to go away for a couple of days. Don't think I've received anything that couple be from you this morning though. Can you resend with BE & you username in the subject line and I'll see it when I get back?

Thanks
