Is there cheap housing not too far away from Madinat Al-Ilam in Muscat? Cheap I mean about RO 200 or so. Or are there house mate situations available?

My choice of a new job is either Muscat or Nizwa (I think Nizwa but that has not been confirmed)

My only dependent will be my AMAZING small terrier dog (full of energy and fun) and I want to be able to get home to him after work.


My other option is to accept a different job in Nizwa (I am making an assumption it will be Nizwa), they could surprise me and tell me it is Salalah (which I will refuse), anyway I am going to assume Nizwa now. The pay same as Muscat. I think it could be more dog friendly in Nizwa but less friendly and convenient for me. Rent might be cheaper.

I'm concerned about getting stuck in an overpriced apt. in Muscat where my dog cannot make a bark and the stress levels soar because of it. BUT I really like the job relations in Muscat.

ah yes, I am an American I'm sure you have realized by my ' use. Would appreciate any news, advice, friends, dog people, wise people?

Muscat is more liberal and Westernised than Nizwa, so if your dog's name is 'Rover', choose Nizwa, but if it's called 'Netanyahu', Muscat is better.

What's wrong with Salalah? Nice place for a dog I would have thought.

OK, the protests and shear boredom might be an issue for you, but pooch will thank you for all the walks.

Why couldn't my dog go for long walks in Muscat or Nizwa?

I don't think anything is wrong with Salalah I just prefer to be in or closer to Muscat. S might be nice for a vacation.

Oman has a much cooler climate than here, we were there one winter and it was freezing!

Not sure about summer being cooler in Muscat. They were the first place in the GCC to hit 47 deg C this year

Salalah is cooler, much cooler hence all the locals heading there for the holidays but Muscat isnt

I like this chart. Muscat is on average hotter in summer, and cooler in winter.

Since all of you who responded are from Dubai or Baharain perhaps I'm looking in the wrong country for a job. Oman is not offering very good pay for the experience and quality that I bring.
