Default New traffic laws and fines

http://gulfnews.com/nation/Traffic_a.../10192550.html

points are in, fines are up, confiscations increased, but every year you get a new slate?!?!?!

not perfect but a big step in the right direction now lets see if they actually enforce it and prosecute the nutters who normally get away with murder.....sometimes literally.

nb looking at the size of fines this will certainly slow me down, 200 aed is nowt but 800 aed fines will add up really fast.

I wonder what the point of the fine for "Exceeding maximum speed limit
by not more than 10km/h" is... they'd have to really get serious to enforce that...

will all be a waste of time if they dont get off their arses and enforce them.

yesterday i saw a big 4x4 double parked on Al Wasl near the driving school 10m away from a traffic cop. the 4x4 then suddenly pulled out without signalling causing another car to slam on its brakes. the 4x4 then moved 5m into a space that had become available. The cop saw it all and didnt even go over!

Most of these offenses already existed, as did the black point system but it has never been enforced. Installing more speed cameras or increasing fines isn't going to do any good unless the police start pulling people over- to a lot of the worst drivers a 1,000 Dhs fine is still small change.

8:40am today on way to work I drove past a group of people and some paramedics - the paramedics were administering CPR. I think the guy had been hit by a truck... no idea of it was speeding or whatever that caused it, just the first time I've seen that anywhere... I hope he made it, but I don't think he did...

also saw a traffic cop this morning at the junction on Al Wasl road the turn off to Defence roundabout, stopping pickup trucks in the filter lane thereby blocking all the traffic behind. not the best place to check documents of whatever he was doing!

Interesting that its higher penalties to drive without number plates than it is to cause someone's death - says it all really

Not really - causing someone's death will result in prison.

I've seen two dead bodies on the road to Dubai from Abu Dhabi this year alone...

I can't really see the police enforcing all these laws as they have been on the books for years already - and seeing as the police break half of them too it will be interesting to see what happens. If they did enforce them it would be wonderful!

The police seem to be spending all their time sat on Al Wasl/Beach Road pulling people over for minor infringements, rather than using there time usefully on SZR/Emirates road dealing with idiots who put lives at risk.

That pretty much nails it on the head...but really I think someone needs to fix the sheer arrogance of some drivers here - the fact is some people are nearly immune to the consequences of reckless driving even if they kill someone.

...let's face it - we live in a country where you can be sat at a traffic light and be hit from behind by someone with fewer digits in their number plate and you're the one who will be blamed for the crash
