New Speed Camera on Sheikh Zayed Rd

Has anyone seen it, not likely as it is so slender and black, look like a flatscreen Samsung TV from the side!

Yes there is a new black speedcamera near to the Burj Dubai (Abu Dhabi Bound) and it doesn't flash. The taxi driver told me it will catch at 100kmh and the fine from this camera is AED1000!!

Watch out guys, they are sneaky!

The rules and fines are still the same...Only the enforcement weapons have been changed...

Yes it is there and there are 2 more before the MOE. the limit is I believe 100 so you can do 100, also they cover the outside 3 lanes, it isn't that often a careful driver can do more than 100 anyway on that stretch staying in 1 lane

The limit is 100 and you have a leeway of 20 more...
It will flash on 121...It will flash...
The minute that the camera manufacturers introduce cameras that do not flash in low lit areas, rest assured that you won't see flashes on SZR anymore...

The camera before this new one (heading Dubai way) does not have a 20km/h margin of error - it flashes below 110... and its an old style one. Its the one that most people slow down for knowing it will flash.

I've noticed that many of the other SZR cameras don't actually have a bulb in them (have a look next time you pass - some do have an obvious bulb in them, some don't)

Dubai 92 read out new fines issued by Dubai Police..

The email they read out said something like...

All cameras apart from Jumeirah have now been reset to flash 10km/h above the speed limit. The fine for speeding has gone from AED200 to AED500.

The cameras in Jumeirah will flash at 81km/h (ie. 1km/h above the speed limit, although I thought it was 70km/h). There are also mobile cameras off the main road between the villas where the limit is 40km/h and these will flash 1km/h above.

Going through a red light...first offence AED1500 fine, second offence 3 days in jail (and anyone working as a driver will be deported).

THey weren't absolutely sure it was genuine, but read it out anyway.

Probably overheated and blown from being on almost all the time!

If this is the case ( ) I would suggest a visit to a vehicle testing place ASAP to ensure your speedometor is correctly calibrated as a 1kmh (0.6mph) margin is pretty tight. IIRC, the UK speed cameras were generally 10% +2 mph to allow for inaccuracies in relation to this.

This sounds right to me, I got flashed a few months ago and my fine was AED500.

I've heard this new cameras fine is 1000.

Was watching topgear last night and back in the UK Swindon local council are removing all speed cameras!!

Re: New Speed Camera on Sheikh Zayed Rd

not wanting to disagree, but, how can the fine from 1 camera be more than another? surely doing 120 past a new camera on SZR carries the same penalty as 120 past an old one?

Surely the offence is the same, and the fine would be as per the penalties listing issued a few months back that detailed fines and black points?

Re: New Speed Camera on Sheikh Zayed Rd

i think there is a sliding scale now, the faster over the speed limit you are doing the more the fine etc

Re: New Speed Camera on Sheikh Zayed Rd

I never know what the bloody speed limit is, the signs are not clear at all. The only signs I see is for 100kph but everyone tells me you can do 140kph in some places, 120kph in others and 160kph in Abu Dhabi.

If they are bringing all these cameras in then they need to make things alot clearer to us!!

It's ridiculous!!

Re: New Speed Camera on Sheikh Zayed Rd

nah they dont tell you you have to mind read. On the dxb-ad highway from dubai border upto channel st in abu dhabi its 160 but they havent changed the signs, also the same on the al mafraq/al ain roads but you have to know exactly where on the road its starts and finishes.
