I think it’s a positive move and should help with tourism as Ramadan moves into the prime tourism months for quite some time.

As you say, a good move. I wonder though whether coming so late in the month, it’s a way of testing public opinion with a view to making it the norm. If eating, drinking, smoking and chewing gum elsewhere in public is to remain prohibited it should perhaps be clearly stated or the unwary (residents and tourists alike) may be caught out.

For sure the region will remain essentially medieval long after we are all gone and yet every small step of progress should be encouraged. I'm not religious in the least and yet I have no issue with those who choose or are forced to be. I say it's an internal thing though and needs no control or dictate, even the merest hint of which marks it as nothing more than control girded with fear.
