New QCHP requirements for consultant doctors

Hi

Planning on coming to Qatar as a consultant family doctor supposedly at the end of August.
I have received an email saying there is new requirements for the QCHP for consultants.
The new requirement is as follows, in order for a Specialist to be granted a Consultant position, he/she must be a first or second author for at least two articles published in peer-reviewed journals (with only one of the articles allowed to be a case study).

In order for me to continue going to Qatar I have to agree via contract that I will have completed two published articles within a year of employment. I’m a General practitioner in the UK, which doesn’t require me to be an author or have any published articles.

apparently this is also applying to doctors already within Qatar, but I’m not sure. Anyone in the same position?

Am in the exact same position. Have been moving planning on relocating for 9 months now. At first I was offered a reduced contract as I have no publications but later offered same contract as long as publications done within a year. Still awaiting final license/visa etc.. If we both make it to Qatar maybe we can do a couple of publications together!!

Any further updates on this new requirement? I am awaiting temporary qchp registration for consultant position in medical specialty and planning to move to qatar in February. I already have submitted my resignation in my current job in UK. but any further condition registration/clauses for not having 2 publications will be difficult at this stage for me.

Hi All

New to this forum. My wife is a UK GP with around 12 years of post MRCGP experience and she has also been advised of the 2 publications rule for the Consultant posts by PHCC. She has exchanged a couple of emails with them to discuss this requirement further and now they have stopped responding. Total silence form PHCC!! I have been told by GPs already working in Qatar that they can suddenly stop all communication and then contact you several months later!! Is this the normal for PHCC?

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

It took a while for them to respond back also when we enquired about it.
I have some friends already in Qatar who said it will likely be easy enough to do the publications while working in Qatar. My contract said as long as I complete it within the year of working for them, it will be fine.
I stayed 3 months working in Qatar and then put in my resignation. Qatar was not for me.

Hey LollyGagMiss.... thanks for the quick reply. Mind if I ask why you didnt like it? We have young kids so need to think very carefully before making any such move. GP life in the UK is not good either so Qatar seemed tempting..

Salams Ayaaz

Hope you are well..... Did you go to Qatar in the end? if so, have you had to make the 2 publications?

Thanks

Hi Ahm2299... We have chased a couple of times but no response. I have been advised by Drs already in Qatar that this is quite normal. Are you in the UK Ahm?

I know a female GP who has gone from the UK to Qatar very recently. She has the required publications and speaks fluent Arabic and agreed a package of just over 50K QR per month plus accommodation, school fees etc. However this was agreed almost a year ago, and the current packages seem to be lower!!!

Re: New QCHP requirements for consultant doctors

I have read the Physicians guideline of the QCHP (I recommend everyone to do it), and, in my opinión, LollyGagMiss heard the rain, but did not see the water anywhere......
The guideline, in the Appendix (1) say, textually:
"Healthcare facilities have the right to promote their Physicians to consultant according to the below guidelines and criteria: .........5- The physician should be the first or second author for at least 2 articles published in peer-reviewed journals; only one of the articles can be a case report.".

Therefore, QCHP does not consider you Consultant or Specialist, I think, they only Register you as a Specilist registration or GP registration. Your Healthcare facility, the Organization which is going to hire you, Hospital, Clinic,.... Public or private, is who have this possibility to hire you as a Consultant or Specialist, at discretion of them, and QCHP is giving them a guideline as an advice, I presume.
I would be very grateful if someone could clarify this point.
Good luck everyone

Hi all
Sorry this isn't related to PHCC requirements for publishing articles. Are the PHCC still looking to recruit GP's from UK?

Hi theore,
I am a GP based in the UK and will be moving to Qatar as my husband got a job there. Any news news/updates for yourself? Did you manage to get a job despite the requirement for publications? Any help would be very much appreciated!

Many thanks

Hi Soumy... we decided not to go-ahead due to the 2 publications rule. The package offered for the Non Consultant roles is simply not worth leaving the UK. corona restrictions also did not help!!

Is your Husband joining as a Consultant in family medicine? Assuming the financial package is worth it. Also think about kids education, if applicable.

I wish you and your husband all the best and hope it works out for you. Please do let me know if you need to discuss further.
