New in Abu Dhabi (tailor, bars, restaurants, and friends)
Hi,
I am new in town. Got here 1,5 weeks ago, and have a few questions for you who have been here for a while.
I was thinking of going to a tailor to get some suits and/or shirts, are you able to make any recommendations?
Do you have any tips when it comes to bar and restaurants?
Finally, and most importantly, where do you go to meet new friends?
Thanks!

A visiting (British) colleague was very happy with the suit he had made at the "Abu Dhabi New Tailors" - which has just moved since he used them, he thought, into the Madinat Zayed mall on Muroor Rd, up in town. He said he paid about AED800 including the good lightweight wool fabric (and I think 2 sets of trousers). Not used them myself...
As for your other questions - depends somewhat where you are living as to where best to socialise. There are loads of recommendations on this board if you do a bit of searching.

Get yourself a copy of TimeOut and then scope the sports clubs. There are plenty of things to do and you'll get to meet others with similar interests.
Good luck!

Haven't done anything for a while now but can arrange a pre-ramadan after works drinks for newbies I'm sure.

Only 10 hours left on it.
I went down for a look yesterday and it seemed OK, but I'm an off the peg Burton sort of guy normally, so not really sure what to be looking for.

Went to Abu Dhabi New Tailors, and it took some modifications before they understood how I wanted my suit to fit.
Payed 1500 AED for it (incl. two trousers). You could get a suit for 900-1000 AED with a less expensive fabric.
I am happy with the result and will probably order some more.

If you ever go to Bahrain then try the tailors around the bab al Bahrain. Super Italian fabrics and they will ship onwards. Not saying go just for a suit but if you are there on business. The best but not cheapest is jalani by the bab entrance. They do a lot of the military outfits
