You should call HMRC and let them know that you are moving overseas, they'll make a note on your file. Once you have residency overseas your earnings are taxable in that jurisdiction and not in the UK, even if you send money home it's classed as overseas earnings so, not a problem.

Essentially you're taxable on all earnings up until you leave the UK and have your residency in the new country. Once you have that, your overseas earnings will be taxed at local rate, so for the Middle East it's tax free. But on anything you leave behind that is earning you money; properties, investments etc. you'll have to declare each year by way of a tax return and pay any taxes owed after allowances.

If you go back for 90+ days per year then you'll remain/return to being a tax resident in the UK so most try to avoid that.
Less than 90 days is non-resident for tax purposes.

Anyone know more information on accommodation? I'm heading out there in a few months and NC1 I am told is full but expanding. And NC2 looks like student accommodation back in my uni days. Can anyone advise or send pictures? Ideally I think NC1 is the place to be at?
Thats all really well if you got families who can take care of your children. In my case I am a single mom with no relatives and have ti bring my kids and it has been a trauma. My contract was breached due to the fact that I am not able to leave my kids “on the side of the road” as it was suggested. Today one recruiter said to me that there is a total ban of children in the Tabuk region due the overcrowding of the school. Can anyone verify this claim?

it's 90 midnight's, not days. Minor correction.

Not able to verify, but so far I get the strong impression new hires are expected to leave their families (spouse, dependents) elsewhere and come alone. Sorry to hear you are having a hard time. Seems like either use a boarding school or this situation won't suit your family? Hope you get sorted

I am so sorry that they are not being flexible. I hope they have sympathy and are reasonable with their expectations.

If you're not in Neom yet, what do you mean by contract breached?
I'm not sure about Tabuk region school overcrowding, and don't know anyone who has children in regional schools. I would suggest if there isn't availability for enrollment at Neom school then it would be difficult to bring children here. As a single parent, I expect home schooling wouldn't be possible either.

How has the contract been breached if you havent even signed it yet or started work here?

I think there are some misunderstandings coming through from the recruiter (which doesnt really pose well going forward in any regard). There are international schools in Tabuk, but as mentioned, i have not heard of anyone sending their children there. The NEOM school has a waiting list for new students, but I do not know exactly how long it is, or how long the wait times are unfortunately.

contract breached meaning: I was offered the contract and accepted it and then when the finding of school place and accommodation became to troublesome for the onboarder I was told “ due to complications in my case” they withdraw contract. Meanwhile other department had already told me to approach agent to prepare visa documents, so I spent a lot of money on thaf (Mediccajs, police clearances) and I gave up our house …. Now this. Doesn’t seem normal.

I signed it and Neom signed. So it is valid.

Neom should just say they prejudice single mothers. At least we know from the start. I am a highly specialised and accomplished professional and my team really wants me there. My contract is as signed from both sides. Now because I am single mum my contract is binned, even though it was known from the start.

Neom announced no further school enrollments unless an existing resident at NC1 in Feb, so it's unfortunate if recruitment have been misleading. There is a natural turnover of students with parents relocating, so it is possible they could have facilitated on case by case basis. For example, dependents age may be a factor.

I know some people have recently moved to NC1 as school spaces became available.
I also know of multiple single mothers, so it seems unfortunate you've experienced this issue.

Woa! Didn't think it would actually take that long. I submitted on 9th August 2023. Hoping to hear back on the 20th of September.
