Need some visa advice
 

My new wife (South African) has a valid UAE visa in her passport (expires June) with her maiden name. We have just received her new passport in her married name - how do we get her visa changed to reflect our marriage and how do we then get it into her new passport?

The first thing you need to do is to get a Certified Copy of your Marriage Certificate. Then you need to get this attested (an Apostille affixed). Where this happens depends upon where you were married. For us, UK nationals, our Certified Copy was attested (the Apostille affixed) by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and then attested by the UAE Embassy, both in London.

Beyond this can't help - sorry.

Can't she just use her old passport in her maiden name until the visa expires and then change everything then?

Wouldn't the old passport have been automatically cancelled by the RSA once the new one was issued? My suggestion is that you keep the two passports together and produce both at Immigration, the valid one showing her new name and the cancelled one showing her UAE visa. I guess that is maybe what you meant to say, Patsy.

Just keep both passports together along with a copy of the marriage certificate.

Or perhaps just keep her own name? The concept of changing your surname once married - which was essentially to show possession - is outmoded. Many women don't change their name on marriage and Arabic women don't either.

I think she's already changed it - your *modern* ideas don't work in this case ;)

The old visa in the old passport is still valid as far as I know. As suggested keep both old and new passports and it should be ok. Also if you get an egate card you don't need to even show it at UAE passport control.

We have the same situation with new passport and visa in old passport and have travelled through UAE passport several times and all ok. (same name though)...

Hi sorry, can you please share if there were any issues?

We are facing similar problem now but even worse we must leave 3 hours after landing in Dubai to our honeymoon and we don't want my passport with a new family name to fail us(although we have no other choice anymore,,)

Egate should help in this, right?
