They told me that a International licence was non existant?? It was merely a translation of your countries licence?
So, am wondering, what the hell do we bring?

But what about Doha, Qatar? We wont be staying in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, but Doha.
Suppose we shall just take our Uk licence, NZ licence, bilions of passport size pixs and hope for the best...or taxi!

So get your passport photos and find an open AA -there is a possibility that you could get it at the Abu Dhabi airport -saw a sign there a few days ago but who knows? Had my wife and associates go by and get theirs and mine in US -took 5 minutes and cost $10.

If you cannot get an international licence, I would have my licence officially translated into Arabic by a translator with a rubber stamp collection and pray will hard. In this country never underestimate the value of a sheaf full of useless documents written with the appropriate level of legalese and full of stamps and seals.

Thanks for the link. It sounds like we are in for one hell of a ride then?
had plenty practice here in NZ with Red Tape, although not with driving issues.
Should be fun (not!)

Not sure about Doha but rubber stamps are very big here in UAE You need a stamp for everything if you are in business-recommend that you have several made at a place like Office Max or the like that have very official looking gobblygook about you-just an idea... In Doha taxis are cheap and besides can you drive anywhere outside of the main roads? Everyone I talked to when I was there said the roads were terrible everywhere else.
