our food shopping is 4,000 for a family of six so 10 K sounds ridiculous.

In 10 days how could you judge this place so harshly. It isn't the UK so why should it be the same as it.

It has its issues as does everywhere. If it that bad I doubt you will be moving over here, unless its for the money! if you do come here please don't come on here moaning how back in the UK this, back in the UK that.

Well guys, it seems 10K is too much. as somebody said, maybe the 10 days are not enough to judge. I was staying in a hotel and eating in Restaurants. But this figure came from a few people whom I asked.
I am not writing this post to say Doha is harsh or not, but to present what I have seen. For some it is only money that motivate them, for others maybe something else. In the end, I am glad that shopping is much less than what I thought/been told.

there must be a big difference in price between KSA and Qatar then because we ( family of four ) spend about 4-5000 a month on food . And we eat pretty well too.

We are a family of four, 2 of whom are ravenous growing boys and we spend maybe 5000 A MONTH (not a week) on groceries and eating out at nice restaurants. Of course if you are eating at the InterCon all the time and buying lots of drinks there it could definitely cost you 10K a month.

Prices in Qatar are marginally more than KSA in the supermarket and a little more expensive in restaurants.
