First day of Eid and we have made no plans for the week: so wasting time sitting in Muscat reading threads on the forum. Spare of the minute decision we will drive to Dubai for a couple of days.

Any advice on the quickest and likely easiest route. We will probably go early Monday morning.

Straight up Route 1 (which is the Sultan Qaboos Highway here in Muscat). Just keep going until you get to Shinas where there is a large r/about with a Hugh & Debbie sign saying "Dubai". You'll go across about 18 roundabouts (from memory) before you reach Shinas. Once you're on the Dubai signed road just keep going - it takes you straight to the border.

If you get to the border VERY early you may be lucky but it's a good two and a half/three hours from Muscat to the border. Having said that we used to cross regularly on a Friday morning Dubai to Muscat and the longest it ever took us was 50 minutes (despite all those doing visa runs etc).
