moving to uae...what to bring
when moving over to dubai / abu dhabi do most people bring all their furniture and stuff......or buy everything after arrival..........cheers
|
Re: moving to uae...what to bring
depends, people do both...we brought our furniture because the company was paying for us to ship everything over...furniture is reasonable here, so no issues if you need to buy everything...

the only thing I shipped over was my mac as it has all my work on and I use it loads, and it still cost me over £200. |
Re: moving to uae...what to bring
We bought everything over here, cheap as chips!....
And its fun shopping for it all! Thats not much that you cant get over here really...... |
Re: moving to uae...what to bring
Some of us plan to stay indefinitely* so brought everything over....
* at least we have no plans to return to the UK, so no point in leaving anything there. - |
Re: moving to uae...what to bring
Apart from clothes, and a few personal home things (pictures etc) I bought everything out here - you really can get just about anything and it is pretty inexpensive.

and a bunch of patience |
Re: moving to uae...what to bring
yep agree patience! and a load of passport pictures. and a cushion for the times when you are sitting down a lot in government buildings (although to be fair its much much much better now than in the 'old' days). and also a 'lady' because they can bypass the queue in the traffic dept, i went yesterday with the 2 boys to register my car, had already done the mot, and so came back to do the paperwork (!) as i had to wait for the company to do the letters etc, anyways went into the ladies section, 5 mins later out i came away with my new gold card, and the amount of people waiting 'outside' for their gold cards, i would have been there ages (lunch time you see I always go at 8am). they have 3 machines that is spitting out cards all the time.

We used these guys: www.shipit.co.uk. They managed to condense the entire contents of our lives including a piano, 2 bikes and a child's motorised Mercedes into a 4m square box. The packing was excellent. We also shipped some art with them, again the packing was excellent.
I would highly recommend them. |
