Moving to Riyadh

Morning, I’m moving to Riyadh with work and was wondering where the cheapest place to rent would be. I don’t want to be in a compound as I understand they are relatively expensive.

Also, where is cheap to rent a car. I’m not looking for anything exciting, just something that moves and will keep me going for a few years.

One more thing, SIM cards, what is the best mobile provider?

South Riyadh is probably the cheapest option, but I wouldn't recommend it. You'll want to be close to where you work, sitting an hour or two in traffic trying to get home gets old fast. Establish your budget and shop around.

I rent through the invygo app. Maybe not the cheapest, but you'll get a nice little runner for 3-4k a month.

Thank you for that information, that is good to know. I will hopefully be working around the area of King Salman Park.

Another question you might know the answer too, how do you go about obtaining a car, is it as simple as just renting one when I get there? How much do they charge?

Love the name Ilovegreggs, lol

Pretty much. Just be warned if you have an exit visa, there's additional fees.

Register with invygo, have a look. Lots of car rental firms around the city. Not sure how it works prior to obtaining an iqama, but they are generally issued quickly. Getting a Saudi license however is a bit tricky. Lack of appointments, and not very clear directions on which appointment to book. But once done, that's a pretty quick turnaround.
