Moving to RAK
Hello All.
I have received a job offer in RAK and would like to get some information and/or background on the place. The employer flew me out for an interview which went well and the offer is on the table.
Now I know it was July and no doubt not the best time to see the place in 45Deg of heat. However, The offer is pretty good and a brief look at accommodation costs etc seems to be okay. I quite liked the quietness of the place and Dubai is about an hour away if the need for severe retail therapy took hold.
My initial thoughts ( and yes I want feedback please) I go out alone and the family (wife 3 kids : oldest completing last year of Uni and graduates next year, Middle one is just about to start A level college, youngest just about to move from primary to secondary school) join me next year.
Plan is to make this a 3 year lucrative opportunity and move back to UK then. If this happens I anticipate being there around end of October 2016
Looking at renting a 3 bed villa in Al Hamra complex or similar (?) and would like to tap into your experience and get information on those "little" things that will make or break this. - Like 'cost of living, social aspects - going out, driving, down time, etc etc'.
Any information will be welcome.................... Plus of course the need to consider new friends when we are there :-)

All of that depends on the package you have been offered.

Dayumm that's almost AED 75k a month....you'll make a nice little fortunate, particularly if you are going to be living in RAK, since accommodation (which would be your highest cost, had you been moving to Dubai or AD) is dead cheap in RAK.

Villas are around 10-14K per month from my research. I have no iudea how the car thing would work. For example do you borrow to buy or rent locally ?

Re: Moving to RAK
might be a good idea to rent for a couple of weeks to a month, so you can get your bearings....as to eventually buying a car, that's not difficult to do.....if you are looking to buy a brand new car on finance, then you will need to put down 20% deposit and the bank will lend you the 80%, over a maximum of 5 years. Most car loans are on fairly low interest rates and some banks (depending on the time of year) will also do zero % interest loan.

Insurance is easy to get and it's not as expensive as it is back home. Insurance is done on the car and not the driver. If you are buying a brand new car, then usually the first year of insurance is included in the package.
Otherwise just like in the UK you ring around and get quotes.
