Exclamation Moving out to Dubai

Hi All - OK, I'd love to find out how most people go about heading out to Dubai when they plan to find work...

Are people finding work before they arrive?

Are people calling agencies over there before they leave?

Are there specific agencies that help set work up for expats in the UK / Australia etc...?

Has anyone moved over there and taken a job doing something else in the first instance before finding their career job? E.g. I have my Scuba Diving Instructors license & have been a barmen all over the world! - However I am a web / IT project manager!

So what are peoples thoughts????

first thoughts would be to search the forum, as these questions have been answered loads....and then check out the faq's as it has loads of info about agencies and what to do, as well as stuff in dxb.

welcome to the site btw

I also seem to see people saying that it is getting harder and harder to find work out there due to popularity etc...

Is this so or a slight over statement & once again is finding work determined by whether a) you have the right quals b) you have the ability to be a damn pro-active individual c) you approach the right people & then there is d) your a lucky bugger !!!

The end of the day I really want to come out sometime soon so I will do it regardless - Guess it is just a question or making sure you have the right ammunition on arrival!

Alot of agencies have stopped seeing people who turn up at their offices. some here at DIC even have signs in the window, effectivley telling people to piss off.

Unless you have skills that set you apart from the rest, you will either find it very hard, or you will have to settle for very low wages.
Best thing to do is to come out and see for yourself.
Treat it as a working holiday though..seen too many people come out and spend everything they have chasing a dream that ain't gonna happen, only to return home in an even worse situation than when they left.

Really all depends on which field of work your chasing, how much experience you have that you can offer over other people and if you offer specialist skills.
IT is hard because there dime a dozen, as is finance stuff....lot of people from Asia that work for peanuts that put in stupid hours and are highly qualified and have experience....
Only fields that are probably "safe" are construction type engineers because of the projects...

Yep, I figured it certaintly wouldn't be easy to get a position over there... My skill & background is all web related... So I will continue to keep my eyes & ears open and see what happens...

Has anybody else any thoughts on this???

Thanks

Mikey - Do you have MSN. I'm on a same adventure as you, seeking work in Dubai. From what I've seen, I have somewhat unique skill sets.

How did you make out with this? Let's chat.
