Moving Jobs - Dubai to Abu Dhabi

Hi there - my partner and I have been in dubai for 3 months - he works for a govt dept and has not completed his 6 month probation. however he has been offered a role in Adu Dhabi working for aldar which will practically double his salary. we are aware of potential banning orders to stop job hopping but think it will be ok but we are indiscreetly checking regardless.

The company seems to be well known and reputable. Does anyone have any experience of Aldar ? we are going to abu dhabi this weekend to check the place out as we both have been advised there is signifcant development happening there presently.

it's a tricky one as he is happy working in his present role and we both have settled well in Dubai but we are kinda finding out that he is practically being screwed financially in comparision to the market rates..... taking this role in AD could be too good an oppurtunity to miss but any advice on AD appreciated. Many thanks if you can give us any advice !

Aldar is a government backed company - safe as houses (excuse the pun). also read in a thread weeks ago someone posted that Aldar employees get 3% discount on property purchases.

I dont think anyone is as safe as houses out here, as our dear friend Spugsy has found and i think Insy has had a bad experience with a previous employer. I certainly have and you should investigate as much as you can.

yup i had a bad time here with an employer with a total worldwide staff of 110,000. Just we had Arabic mentality management here. This equates to a nightmare...

one of my friend is working for NBAD and got an offer in dubai he has not completed his 6 months probation and was scared to accept the new job as NBAD is semi govt and people told him that NBAD can put a ban on him so he should do at least 2 yrs with NBAD before changing his job ...please share your thoughts ,

Yes, you are right. Nothing is 100%. I was made redundant after 5 months here and hung out to dry. But there are lots of other opportunities as I soon discovered. As a company, Aldar has "clout" in AD - as for its management I don't know.

Work with Aldar - very good guys. Very Western oriented, many of the big knobs are from UK. They work long hours, though!!

hi everyone as promised just to let you know that he has taken the plunge and has decided to say adios to dubai (well workwise anyway !) and will be starting work on later this month with aldar in AD - all issues with his ex-employer have been resolved amicably, including attaining the required noc letter - i think we have been v lucky !!

though with the lack of accomdation in AD it looks like he will be commuting from the marina to AD till hopefully company accomodation becomes available later in the year.....

thank you all so much for your advice on the company - we both found it quite unusual that the company did not receive any negative comments - it definitely played a part in our decision making process.

aaaghhh !!! my partner resigned and has just been hit with an immigration ban for a year by his now ex-dubai govt employer. they are refusing to provide him with an noc letter ( though they have provided an acceptance of resignation letter) and has been ordered to leave the uae within 30 days so we are unsure whether we can take the position with aldar ? apprently there was a policy put into place within the govt dept last year which states all ex-pats who resign within a year of service will have an automatic ban for a year throughout the whole of uae ! he found this out at the exit interview stage !

we are waiting for the aldar legal PRO to review the documents ( all in arabic) but if anyone has any experience in this kind of 'situation' - be most grateful for your advise. does being banned by dubai immigration carry weight in abu dhabi ? we are hoping aldar can overturn the ban but will know for definite sun/mon...

looks like our middle east experience may be a shortlived one
