Moving to Dubai from UK in the middle of tax year

Hi all,

I moved to Dubai on 1st September this year and have previously worked in the UK for the rest of this tax year. My circumstances are as follows:

-My contract is open ended and i'm unsure to how long I'll be staying in Dubai, it will be for at least a year.

-I'm in full time employment over here

-I don't have my own home in UK but will be renting an apartment here

-I'll be being paid partly to my UK bank in GBP and partly in AED to a Dubai bank

Can someone shed some light on what the tax implications are on what I earn? Will i have to pay any tax on my earnings up until the end of this tax year 2013/14? And if I was to leave Dubai would I have to leave in line with the end of the tax year to not pay tax when I return to the UK?

If anyone could help that would be great! Thanks

In order to be considered UK non-resident for tax purposes you need to be out of the UK for a full tax year, 6th April to 5th April. If you don't do this all of your overseas income will be subject to UK income tax.

You will not pay income tax on your overseas income once you leave the UK, but may have a laibility to pay it on yoru return, depending on how long you remain out, whether you are deemed non-resident, days in the UK and connecting factors. Partial years may have a liability, but it depends on total time as a non-resident.

Thank you for your reply.

OK - so if I worked out here until end of the tax year 2015 and the returned to the UK I wouldn't be paying any tax on my earnings out here?

If I only returned to the UK for a few weeks a year?

Thanks again for your reply
