I would look at arabian ranches. We are moving out in sept/oct and it is a great expat community. It has a community centre on site which has everything your wife would need to get back during the day if she doesn't want to drive. Supermarket, ELC for kids, costa coffee, Pizza Hut, burger ng, pharmacy, nail bar, hiatdressers, dry cleaners. Loads. There is also a. Bus from AR that takes you to mall of Emirates so she would be sorted there too. You would get a lovely 3/4 bed house with your allowance

Green Community is lovely.

Bus from Ranches to MOE is (depending on where you live in Ranches) over an hour. Busses only go one way around (so it's either a long journey there, or a long way back).

But, the taxi is only 35AED and we have a taxi rank so never a problem getting on.

I love the ranches, but I really wouldn't recommend it for a non-driver.

Just out of curiosity - if the fare is AED 4.10 and you proffer a AED 5 note do you get 90 fils change? Or do you give then AED 4.25 and leave it at that?

No one ever has 10 fil coins even though they do exist and by law a company is supposed to give you exact change.

As housing estates ;) go I think that Ranches is the best in Dubai, especially as much of it has been there some time and the planting is well established. It's not that far out either, so I see the benefits. I just don't like the way most gardens seen to be overlooked or so open.

You use a NO1 card - I've never seen anyone pay cash. It's a bit of an experience being on a bus here - I've never seen another Caucasian on one yet.

I've used it a couple of times. But from MOE to the ranches, I really wouldn't put myself through the hassle for a 30dh saving once in a while.

Indeed. I've also heard instances of 'honkey rage' where some bus users have acted angrily to a honkeytonk using the bus, in a 'what the f**k are you doing on our bus type way'...

I don't have anything to wear on a bus darling...which is why I wouldn't use 1 :D

Why pay 180k - 200k for the Ranches when you get something in Al Barsha (like my place) which would be twice if not three times bigger than an Emaar property. Just because she doesn't drive doesn't mean she has to live on a *housing estate*. Taxi's can be easy to get at off peak times and in the winter you can walk to a few malls.
