Moving to Dubai
All,
I hope you are well,
I am moving with my wife ( no kiddypinks ), and was wondering, what is the cost for clothing out there. as we have been told mixed things, so we were planning on not bringing an awful lot, and buy while we are there?
thanks
Matt

Some are cheap but the gold plated ones with diamond buttons are more expensive!

Have you tried Regus Offices?, they are in Dubai in about 3 or 4 locations?

... but you don't know the price of clothes

My only advice is to bring your own clothes if you are a little on the large size. Most garments here seem suited to Chinese, Thai or Indian physiques. Fortunately, some Splash outlets do cater for 3XL and above. Make sure your shirts and dresses are 100% cotton or you will sweat buckets.

On the whole clothes are slightly more expensive than in the UK, maybe 10-15% on average in stores such as M&S, Debenhams, Zara etc.
During the sales you can pick up some decent deals, it’s also worth visiting the Outlet Mall every now and then, there are consignment stores if that’s your thing, or you can get a decent suit (with a couple of shirts) tailor made for around AED1,000 upwards (with Groupon or the like vouchers this can be cheaper).
Also, you can online shop online with sites like Sukar to get decent deals. Or, international online and pick up deals from the UK, US or wherever and with a Shop n’Ship account and get things sent over, the cost of additional postage does eat into the ‘savings’ but again during sales it can be worth it.
As soon as you can stop converting the prices you see here back into pounds, it’ll drive you insane. Just accept things here are priced differently and work out if there’s enough value in the product relative to what disposable income you have to spend on it to judge its worth to you.

Re: Moving to Dubai
retail here is taxfree, so minus 25% but has 40% franchise mark up costs so averages 15% higher than home for international brands.
Also stock comes here late so you would find it earlier at home and they don't have any true flagships so you never get the best range of product.
