Moving to Dubai
Hello
My husband and I are in the process of relocating to Dubai, he already has a job and is starting at the beginning of June, I will follow at the end of July (I guess I won't be leaving the apartment for the first month or two due to the heat)
I have never been to Dubai and so am jumping in with both feet and really want to make the most of it. I would appreciate any advice that the wise folk of the forum could give, in particular....
Has anyone experience of shipping furniture out to Dubai - if so who is best to use and how long did it take to arrive?
We think we will be living somewhere near JLT/Marina/JBR areas (although he has to find the place when he gets there) any advice on these areas including traffic for getting to Media City?
I would like to get a job, but have noticed that many sites do not include salaries on job ads and some specifically exclude women. Any advice on the best way to go about getting a job would be great...are there many jobs available and should I use or not use any particular recruitment sites/agencies.
I have plenty more questions but this is probably enough for now...
Thanks
SP

Re: Moving to Dubai
Thanks Patsie, had guessed as much - thought that the 50 or so people who read it must have fallen straight to sleep. Have slapped my own wrist and promise to try and not missuse the site again
Have read a number of the posts and lots of them are helpful, some are really funny and quite a few show the utter dispair at newbies like me who ask frustrating questions - so apologies for that
I am quite overwhelmed by the whole thing and my head is just constantly full of questions, most of them are here somewhere though - not the first, won't be the last!!

here is a link to a removal company that did really well moving me within Dubai...they also do international, several other peeps on the "bored" have used them, so I know they are good, anyway I was really happy with them and I am very difficult to please :-)
http://tmsdubai.net/
let us know what sort of job you are looking for and then we can try and help.
Please tell me that your husband has done the right deal regards....housing allowance/school fees (if needed) health insurance/flights home for the family/ etc.
It will make a difference to you enjoying your stay in Dubai or hating it

Thanks for the link, we have Pickfords and Crown coming round to asses our worldly goods and quote for shipping, we will look at this one too before committing
The job thing is difficult, my current job and matching qualifications are quite specialist and I don't fit into any of the categories on the recruitment sites I have looked at. I am currently employed in food law enforcement (I inspect factories and audit them for legal compliance) alseep yet? wouldn't blame you!
I have no idea about the employment market in Dubai and wonder if maybe I should just wait until I am there, I don't suppose there is much call for female law enforcement folk!?
As for the deal on my husbands job - he has a decent basic, seperate housing and car allowances, return flights for us both, medical cover for us both and school fees are included should we need them (no kids yet). From the advice i have seen on here it looks reasonable though.........
