Default move from Dubai to Muscat

Hi, DH been offered position in Muscat. Can I ask if this package is doable? We have been in Dubai nearly 3 years and it is so expensive so want to know we can live comfortably in Muscat.

Basic salary 3000 omani riyals per month
All schooling paid for 2 kids
business class flights every year for family
full medical
car, fuel
family accommodation including utilities

So according to DH the money we get every month is spending money and we will have no outlays. Whats your opinions please.

Many thanks

I thought it was pretty similar in price to AD/Dubai when I was there recently. Therefore, if you have all the big expenses covered by your company, then 3000 OR will be more than enough to live comfortably.

You might struggle to amuse yourselves on a weekend, but....

thanks spart, we have 2 young kids so weekends are all about family, days of partying are well over.

Also does anyone know if you can take a bank loan from Dubai and keep paying it in Oman? or do you have to clear your debt in Dubai first.

Should be fine. My 4 bed villa in Muscat costs 1100 OMR (though rents for big villas are falling), a car plus fuel will set you back around 400 OMR for a decent 4x4 and utilities is around 100 OMR. On top of that add your school allowance - British School Muscat is roughly 1000 OMR per term/kid plus 2500 enrollment fee.

So I would say the package is roughly just over 4500 OMR per month (plus school fees) which is pretty decent for Muscat, obviously depends on the job etc but you will have more than enough to live comfortably. Nobody here adds the value of flights to a package as its the law to have at least one flight, though yours are business which is nice.
