Mobile phones in AD
Can anyone tell me if you can just turn up at Carrefours, Jumbo Electronics etc etc and purchase a pay as go mobile with no ID or do you require a residency visa?

You need some form of ID to purchase the SIM card but a passport will do if you want 'pay as you go'. If you want a contract then you need UAE ID Card.

And can all this be done in the suppermarket or for the sim do you have to go to the Etisalat building??

When we arrived here 6 weeks ago I got a couple of SIM's from the phone shack by the side of the hotel. Wasn't asked for any ID at all...

Cassels on Electra - there's a stack of phone shacks on the street round the back of the place.
