Question Mobile phone in Dubai

Hi,

I was wondering about the cell phone provider market in the UAE.

I would like to be reachable right from the beginning. In Austria we have prepaid phone cards, is it the same in Dubai? Which one would you recommend and where can I get them?
Or should i get a contract right away? How does it work and which one do you recommend? I am would like one where it is not too expensive to call home (Austria)...

Thank you.

I'm going to get myself a pre-paid this week and have discovered there are only two carriers in Dubai, http://www.du.ae/en/category/mobile/ and http://www.etisalat.ae/personal.html

You can get a pay-as-you-go straight away (Duty-free as you arrive in Dubai airport sell them, or Emarat shops, Etisalat service centres etc...).

If you want to transfer this to post-paid you need to then go into an Etisalat service centre (we used the one next to Al Murooj hotel) and pay a 2000dh deposit.

You'll need photocopies of your passport for any phone SIM card.

And for post-paid I think you need to be a resident? Although that may now be incorrect.
