That is correct, as Meow points out hospital is far more likely or he has done a runner. (As harsh as it may sound)

Then it is likely he is in a hospital somewhere. They can be quite useless and I wouldn't believe anything they say over the phone. A family member, or authorised party, needs to visit each one in person.
I have heard that the family have telephoned some hospitals, but they don't really understand how things work here. If you don't turn up in person and demand (albeit politely) you will generally be ignored.

What, you expect them to do something? You might interupt their peaceful existance of ignoring anything to do with the riff-raff that hold British passports.

I'd also assume that his Dad / Brother / Uncle whoever would be out here with the Embassy hunting prisons/hospitals and morgues.

The family aren't out there yet. I know they are in talks at the moment about going out there. I really hope some of them fly out soon cause they will have a much better chance of finding him that way.

I don't want to sound harsh at this horrible time but they need to be told in no uncertain terms, get here.

Doubtful. Thing is we have no right to know.
Like others have said, if someone at the Embassy/Consulate made an effort they could get answers. Apart from hold parties and issue a few forms, what else do they actually do?

Cannadine is there a family member going to Dubai?
It's really, really important that somebody who cares is doing all the searches etc. You can't leave it to officials. It's not a part of the world where officialdom is easily navigated or works in the way it should. The embassy is terrible with Brits in "troublesome" situations.
If not, a family member needs to be on the next flight. You need to tell them everything that has been repeated on this form again and again until they're on the plane.
