ME Knowledge Base
Up at the top, it's the wiki faq thingy, if anyone ain't seen it yet, check it out...the ME section, I think I've added everything that was in the stickied faq thread into the various sections.
If some of you have a spare moment to check it out and see if I've missed anything, and if there's anything new to add, go for it, or let me know and I'll add it.
Now that it's mostly all set up, it should be easier to keep up to date, but it's been a bit of a mare to get sorted, so I could have easily have missed something
Cheers,
R.B

Re: ME Knowledge Base
Studio flat: AED 40-70k+
1 Bed: AED 60-100K+
2 Bed: AED 80-150K+
3 Bed: AED 120-250K+
4 Bed: AED 180-350+
Rents depend on locality. Better localities (e.g. Jumeirah, Umm Suqqueim, new dubai areas) would be in the upper range of the rents mentioned above.

Re: ME Knowledge Base
There is nothing available. One apartment was advertised for AED 140K by Better Homes. So I called them up to inquire and was told it is now 150k. She giggles and tells me that it went up in the last 1 week (after they advertised) due to 'high demand'
I then called Rocky Real Estate. He has a 'small' 2 bed apartment with a window ac for AED 105,000 and this is in Karama
So looks like new tenants are now bearing the brunt of the rent cap - well if the landlord cannot squeeze existing tenants, they try to make it up by squeezing new tenants twice as hard.
Wiki needs updating.......
And anyone who is planning to come to Dubai, be really brutal when negotiating your rent allowance/package. Have to give them the bad news

I've been so out of touch with rentals here, until today. Am looking for a 2 bed apartment in the Burjuman/Mankhool Area for someone.

IG - try Satwa?? there is a building at the top near the water roundabout with a number on it. Also Al Barsha is alot cheaper.

Re: ME Knowledge Base
Sorry if I sound daft, but is Al Dhiyafah street in Satwa? That street is very nice. Is Satwa a nice area? I'm not sure I've been there, or if I have, don't remember it
Al Barsha may be too far, since he is going to work on the other side of the creek. And since he won't have a car initially - intil he sorts out his drivers licence, commuting could be a problem.
I really had no idea that the situtation was this bad for new tenants

Al Diyafah street is the one that runs from the roundabout at the rydges plaza up towards the dry docks, loads of apartment blocks. There is also a new building next door to the organic cafe in Satwa - If he is working Deira side try Garhoud as well. Mankhool is a nightmare at night for traffic, I think Satwa would be alot easier in the long run. I lived there for nearly ten years and loved it. It is a nightmare out there.
