Thanks for all this. The message I think I am getting is that I will get a concession and not pay UK tax on earnings made in Dubai if I stay for over a year, my salary will let me live decently as long as I am spending and not saving, and sailing clubs are tricky to get in to.

This is pretty much what I was expecting to hear and it is certainly worth considering this option further.

If anyone here sails in Dubai it would be great to hear from you, I would be curious to know if you can sail at these clubs without being a member etc.
