Default Making homebrew beer in Abu Dhabi or Dubai

I love my real ales. Last time I was overseas for a year (France) I brewed my own beer using a kit and it turned out pretty well.

Has anyone done this in Abu Dhabi, and what are the rules around brewing your own beer at home for personal consumption?

I don't want a cleaner or handyman to report me and I end up being kicked out of the country...

Bingo.

Barracuda has a great selection -granted, more the big name breweries and they aren't cheap but I always stock up on a fair few to enjoy when the time is right and I'm missing a flat, warm ale.

Illegal but..... on the grand scale of things probably not that bad. Especially when you consider that every expat in Kuwait and Saudi home brew.... and its dry there. I'd say if you have a liquor licence, keep it on the down low and you aren't distributing it they wouldn't be too bothered.

Kuwait and Saudi are utterly dry.

UAE is not. It's very easy to get alcohol in the UAE. And it's not too expensive as things go. Whinge about prices if you want but it's not too far off from central London prices.

Is it worth risking prison, job loss, deportation to brew alcohol? I'll be frank, I've never heard of anyone brewing their own beer here.

I have no idea how the authorities will react if they stumble on it.

We all kinda know all of that.... so.....??

The point is... you think it would be a big issue.... where as I don't think they'd be too bothered.... as neither of us know for sure.... its kinda moot!

A quick Q tho, what do you think all those folk in Saudi and Kuwait do on a daily basis....risk prison, job loss, deportation to brew alcohol?..... I know I did along with every other expat when I lived there way back when... lots of een had bars with fully operational taps etc.

There is a fairly new liquor store in the Arc on Reem Island that has a fabulous selection of craft beers and wines called Peninsula and they are on facebook and have a website but cant get link to work.

They are not like the usual spinneys/high spirits/African & Eastern similar selection we often get.

Why risk making your own when they have a real choice the last time I looked

I don't know where you drink but I've never paid 8gbp for a pint of cider in London.

I've paid 5 for a pint of cider in parts of London.

An extra 3 GBP doesn't bother me given the context.
