Make or break decision time - Job Offer in hand!
Hi everyone,
Been reading this forum a lot recently and think the advice/comments are great.
I have just been offered a job to move out to Dubai. Working as a Coordinator for a Financial Adviser. We are in the process of the negotiating a package and would be keen to get some tips when going through my negotiation.
So far on the table I have been offered:
- Commission only role with the potential to earn substantial amounts in my first year
- Half rent paid for
- Flight to Dubai paid for
- Potential to bring £5k worth of savings with me.
From reading various different posts I feel that I might be getting my pants pulled down.
Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks for your time guys.

Also, if I remember right, they can't get a visa for a commission only role so you'd be here illegally, need to do a visa run every 30 days, couldn't open up a bank account etc.

Sounds like a good deal to me.
When you call me and I tell you: "yes, I have heard of you and I believe that you are a bunch of cheating, lying bastards" take it in good step like the last guy did and say "yeh, I get that a lot". It made me smile - I find it rude when you just hang up.

I've been thinking long and hard about this. A lot of people on this forum will jump to a knee jerk reaction and just shout no.
I had a dream last night that I got offered no basic, some rent, a flight over here and pots of bonus for doing somebody elses donkey work. I was excited, I mean, it's Dubai. It's paved with mother****ing gold.
Then reality rolled in and I realised. I can't, it's stupid, I mean; no salary? Who works for free nowadays? I don't get paid van loads of wedge but I get a freakin salary.
SO. After waking up this morning and dreaming about your situation I paused and felt a bit sorry for you. You HAVE got your pants down, they are taking the piss and whatever figure you've been quoted for earning in Y1 is almost certainly utter bollocks.
Don't do it and certainly don't do it with 5k of your own hard earned (I assume) savings.

Many thanks for the replies above, gave my head a serious wabble last night.
After expressing my concerns the company has come back with a revised offer AED 9,000 per month plus commission on top, the other benefits are still on the table.
Would it be safe to say that the coordinator role has a similar perception to Recruitment Consultants in the UK?

After that set up a fake profile on linkedin then search all the ex-pats in the middle east for contact details, then plague them with calls every week.

No. I'd say it's sub-cockroach - Think a recruitment consultant that focuses on recruiting estate agents.

50% rent (how much is this?)
Commish.
Flight out here (that's bare minimum but it does mean they give you one home...)
That's a do-able deal. Just bear in mind you'll be working as someone's bitch in a job where nobody you ring will want to talk to you.
BUT
If you get out here and start applying for jobs elsewhere, you could escape and be laughing.
