Magic in the UAE
Hello, my name is Magical Trevor..and i am truly magical 
There is this group of people (group of nerds if you will) who play this game called Magic:The Gathering, this game used to be played quite a bit in the UAE but it disappeared...anyway this group of ...people (nerds) is desperately trying to resurrect old players to come back and play this game, however we also welcome new players and people willing to learn...we currently have 8 players regularly which is more than enough, however if we get to 30 players by about this time next year then the UAE will be qualified to play this game at a National level, which in turn then let's the top 3 players in the country fly off and play for 100's of 1000's of dollars at an event called 'Worlds'.
We currently play Wednesday nights (but some are willing to play more often)..it's sanctioned by the DCI and is considered by Hasbro and the DCI as FNM (Friday Night Magic) and all points go to your DCI rating.
Also Time Spiral pre-release events have already been sanctioned and organised...and the date set.
...so basically if you have heard of this game and/or know someone who plays this game whether it's your son/husband/brother/sister/whatever... then please point them in the direction of this thread or our google groups place [email protected] and tell them to get in touch. At the moment we play Wednesday nights at the Rydges Plaza Hotel..so PM me for more details.
Also, if you know people who play Warhammer or other table top games, Dungeons & Dragons or other role playing games...then they should get in touch too...it's called Strategy Gaming DXB...but let's not evade the simple truth...we are nerds who don't mind slaying a dragon or 2 in our spare time.

All the kids seem to be playing Runescape at the moment is that the same sort of thing?

Runescape is an online 3D roleplaying game similar to the old Dungeons & Dragons
Although Magic: The Gathering can be played online it is in fact a card game.
The people who play Magic (in our group) range from ages 15-to well over 40
For young players it develops incredibly advanced mathematical skills for older players it is a good way to let the mind de-stress after a hard week at the office.
Also young players learn how to be good winners and good losers as well....and some of the adults learn this skill too.
Magic, the game itself, is more a combination of Poker+Chess as far as complexity goes ...the thing that makes it "nerdy" is the D&D style fantasy images on the cards themselves...which actually is one of the reasons i like it...because i'm an artist and i appreciate the art.
