living together in Oman (Unmarried)
Hello
I hope someone can clear this up for me. I am due to move to Oman with my company in a couple of months.
I plan to take my long-term girlfriend along with me. What is current the situation in Oman about unmarried couples living together? and how strict is it enforced?
I am British and she is Norwegian.
Any advice or help would be much appreciated.

You have not mentioned about the time period that your girl friend would be living with you. Anyways, I have answered for both conditions
Condition 1 (Long Stay)
You need a sponsorship for your spouse from your Company. And for applying Residence VISA you need a Marriage Certificate. The Residence VISA is a long-term, multi-entry VISA for 2 years initially.
Condition 2 (Short Stay)
You need to fill up a sponsorship form for your companion where you need to detail your relationship etc. This can be done at British Embassy here.
All the formalities need to be completed before you are granted Residence VISA. Once granted, you can live with her as long as you want. It depends on your Company Policies of whether they would sponsor her or not. Short stay VISA seems to be a better option for you, initially. You can surf the following site to have a clear idea of the VISA regulations.

Thanks for the response. I am looking at a minimum 2 - 3 year placement so it also seems that I am looking at a marriage in the near future!

The Police in Oman are very cool about most things. They generally accept us for what we are. Many times I was picked up by the police and given a lift home after a night in the pub just to stop me from walking in the road. If you live together unmarried you will be generally unbothered by anyone if you keep yourselves to yourselves.
You'll enjoy Oman, I was there for 6 years and was never bored once.

Living together if you are unmarried in Oman is fine provided that the male is castrated.
Castration can be done at any reputable clinic in Oman but note that it's worth asking for your parts back afterwards as otherwise they may end up on the menu at the local restaurant.
