Living in Fujairah
Hi all, been a long time since Dubai fell apart and we had to leave.
Seems to be quite a bit going on in Fujairah these days as the up and coming Emirate, and the new road from Dubai airport being open takes 1 hr to 1.5hrs, is this about right.
There is a possiblity of me securing a job in Fujairah and whilst we have stopped in one of the hotels a few years ago, does anyone know what its like to live there. Is there anything to do.

Are you still taking your medication? Yes, there is a new section of road to Fujeirah but there is one to Al Ain too. No way is Fujeirah an up and coming place.

the oil pipeline from AD and the land reclamation around the port means there should be quite a bit of construction activity - then they'll need schools, hospitals etc

It is growing but living there..... no thanks.
I'm over there a lot with our tunnels project but I think I would die of boredom if I had to do any longer than a few days.

Re: Living in Fujairah
I have lived in Fujairah from Aug 2010 till Jun 2011. It is a boring place. It is a quiet place. I will attempt to list the good and bad things of Fujairah vis-a-vis Dubai.
Good Things:
1. Traffic is not an issue
2. Compact town
3. Better air quality than Dubai
4. A handful of good Arabic Restaurants
5. Alcohol is easy to obtain and plenty
6. Plenty and easy parking
Bad Things:
1. It feels a bit like Karachi
2. Not much to do
3. Lulu is the only half-decent supermarket
4. No Dubai-style shopping mall
5. Entertainment is limited to Chinese and Filipina ladies who will love you for a fee
6. It is still quite a way from Dubai
7. It can get humid in a bad way, more than Dubai
8. Too many shisha shops.
9. You may feel exiled on the east coast.
10. It is BORING!!!!!

Re: Living in Fujairah
Thanks people for the comments.
Appreciate its quiet compared to Dubai, but most places are. Job is in Fujairah so I take it or leave it. Still have friends in Dubai so thats the odd weekend sorted out.I understand the Road link is open and the Oil pipeline complete.
'Where there is oil people will follow' which appears to be whats happening here. Think they also have a carrefour, MacDonalds, and KFC. Also hotels where you can get a beer.
Probably a rolling 3 ish weeks in the sandpit then home for a week. So thats do able.
When you say boring, guess you never lived in African counties or Lybia??? but understand the point you are making.
Have posted again as a bit out of touch re visas so any advise re this appreciated

And there is a Fujariah City Centre mall now open. Still dull tho. Saying that I'm in RAK covering leave for 2 weeks currently..... joy! Especially over Ramadan!
