Re: Living in Al Ain
I think this is my fifth post now which will make me a fully fledged member. I will have to look more closely to see what that means, though I think PM's are one of the benefits.
Cheers

Re: Living in Al Ain
Hello, new to this forum. I currently work in Dubai and live in Sharjah but am not here half the time (travel for work to countries in Middle East and occasionally Europe). I am looking to move to Al-Ain, however does anyone one know of any housing closer to Dubai as you just enter Al-Ain near the al-foah district? Thank You.

I've am living in Ain Al Fayda for a few weeks pending moving into a villa (paid the rent today). Any ideas on where to find a few friendly expat faces to ask about local do's and don'ts?

Re: Living in Al Ain
Someone mention my name, hello how is everyone today? Yes my lovely man is working at Al Ain Hospital and is presently staying at The Hilton Hotel. Thursday night at Paco's in the hotel is half price and it seems that the rugby is televised there so no doubt when the dreaded footie starts it will be the same. ChangeRinger where abouts in AA are you working and also where and how did you find your villa and can you tell me what the average rentals are. I am hoping to come out later in the year but due to family commitments (new grandson due in 5 weeks) I am staying at home in the UK (Chester). Al Ain Man is an engineer and from what I have heard Al Ain is a very nice place to be. Anyway will look forward to hearing from you soon. Blue Cat is a lovely person and I feel as if I have known her a long time, she has already met AA Man and her hubby has spoken on the phone so this is a very nice place to make new friends. Richard is meeting up with some other new friends we met through this site next weekend (Larnie and her husband who is an architect working at the new university) so if you would like to meet some people then let me know

Re: Living in Al Ain
Funny you should mention being an architect at the Uni. My company are doing the glass and aluminium for that site so it would be handy to meet up for a beer and chat. I got my villa for Dhs 37450 p.a. It's a duplex with a private entrance, two reception + kitchen. Upstairs is another large sitting room with 3 bedrooms off - master bedroom with en-suite. Now for the bad news - it's filthy dirty (dust & grime & crud) with very few amenities & the kitchen cabinets are crap & I have to buy my own air-conditioners. However, my company makes kitchen cabinets so I think I may be getting brand new ones. I have no idea what the average price of a duplex (i.e. semi-detached) villa would be but it seems generally that i've got a bargain. Where from? .... The Department of Social Services & Commercial Buildings Affairs of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. If you'd like the location, I can probably word one for you. And I have their phone no. Hope this helps.

Hey Hi
Sorry I can't be much help as fare as renting villas and such like as we have chosen to stay permanently at the Intercon but as far as meeting people is concerned the best places appear to be Paco's at the Hilton and H & J at the Intercon. We find we socialise with other Consultants on the job but are hoping to spread our wings a bit once the temperatures cool a bit. We had a glass of wine at Trader Vics at the Rotana and then saw a movie. Crap movie but first one we've seen since we left NZ. It's still very quiet here but most people are due back from holiday soon so I imagine it will perk up a bit.
