We have a few maintenance issue, a few cosmetic issues he promised to fix and so far we have gotten a few fixed but delay after delay and now nothing on the rest. Unfortunately the checks he has for the next 8 months have been given to him so we can't hold out rent. We are trying to handle this as smooth as possible but I told hubby i'm ready to move out and find another villa and if our roommate wants to stay here and deal with the bs and not get results, let him.. he was the one to write the checks.. i was told everything en shallah... ok that was 3 months ago... it is time for results but we didnt know who or what part of the UAE / AL Ain to go to with our grievances. By the way, we are still looking for furniture as well.. I will check out the al ain yahoo group website.. thanks !!!
Hi sassy

Based on personal experience I would say your chances of getting your maintenance issues sorted by the Landlord now that he has his money are zero. The is no such thing as tenants rights in the UAE, sorry but a hard lesson we all learn.

If you do have to sell furniture, let me know what you have. I am still looking as I mentioned above.
Why Doha, because that's where my husband has been offered the job. Not such a great place but what can I do? Anyway, all my furniture was bought in Dubai in August 2007 and we're thinking of selling most of it. The villas in Doha are, for the large part, furnished or semi-furnished so it seems pointless taking the furniture with us. So if anyone is interested, please let me know.

Also, I don't know if the present company would want to keep the villa that we are in, so maybe there could be some negotiation about that too. Our lease would be up at the end of May this year.

I really would still like to meet up for a coffee before I go, so let me know when you are available.

Then looonger.
If you guys are unhappy, either bite the bullet, or have somebody buy you out of your rent , that you have already paid. Rent your share to someone else. Illegal, yes, but what goes on in Al Ain, stays in Al Ain.

I will pm you my number.
Not any more you just told the world

Wow what a popular thread! I've just read through the first 30 pages, and am still going strong.... for now

I just joined this forum to ask a couple of questions as I am currently looking at one of the military jobs in Al Ain. I'm still in the early recruiting phase, but would love to get some first hand information.

Are any of you guys on the MCO contract, or married to someone that is?
What are the general impression from these guys of working there?
I read early on in the thread that most of them live at the Hilton, is that still the case?

I'm currently living in Riyadh, so Al Ain will surely be a step up from a nightlife perspective.... but reading this forum makes me think I might be the only single person in the whole place... say it isn't so!!

thanks muchly (from another Aussie!)

Damo.

Damo,

Worry not - there are several of us MCO types who are single. I got here in October and have recently moved out of the Rotana into my own villa. There is another single guy (also in Rotana) who is in the final stages of acquiring his own place. We are both working at the Air College but I know of a couple of other singlies who work at ZMC. Feel free to ask anything about Al Ain or the MCO deal (we may have to go private for that !!)

It was a quick reply, cause we are bored out of our minds here!! LOL!!

My hubs works with the military at Sheik Zayed Base/Camp. There are many single/ married guys without spouses here in Al Ain. Post some more details about your upcomong job, as that will help you get more posts,... to be able to get PM's

out of curiosity, how much would an Australian nurse (specialising in surgery) with about 5 years experience get paid in Al Ain?

I've read generic salary amount of 8000-12000 AED/month. Is this close to the mark?
