Hello everyone,

I originally posted back in September that the hubby and I thought we might be moving to Al Ain. Looks like we are moving, but within Asia (we are in China now) not to the Middle East. Not yet, anyway.

Thanks for sharing info and enjoy your stays in Al Ain, maybe we'll find our way there someday...

In the meantime, I'll check out the Hong Kong & Macau scene...

Howdy all. Settling in well now thanks. Loving Al Ain and can't wait for my family to join me in December.

Can anyone tell me a good family doctor (English speaking) near Al Jimi? I have done a search but could not find out any info.

Also, people who have joined the Intercon/Hilton, what was the deciding factor for you? I'm not worried about the gym really, just what is offered for the little ones in relation to pools, playgrounds and food.

Cheers,

Kingy.

For a romantic weekend with the wife...the Rotana for sure! It is looking lovely in the evening these days. But I truly think the best restaurant is Luce at the Intercontinental. I don't like the restaurants at the Rotana - particularly Trader Vic's it is just not up to par!

Hi Becky, Welcome! There are two groups who meet regulary for a coffee, one at the Starbucks at Al Ain mall - Mondays at 10am, and one that meets at Cosi at the Al Jimi Mall Tuesdays at 10am, unfortunately I will not be at Cosi this week as I am driving to Dubai, but am happy to meet for a coffee another day, how about Sunday morning?

Hi Kingy,
Docs dont really work the same way as in Aus - we use the GP system at the Al Noor hospital, and you then have all the specialists right there too. Ref clubs, we joined the Intercon, they have a great kiddie pool and play area, and the childrens menus at the restaurants are good. How old are the kids? If they are at sport playing age, intercon has tennis lessons, etc, however we also joined the Rugby club for the sport side.

Thanks Shammy. I was thinking of the Intercon and Rugby Club for the same reasons. Kids are 3 and 6. The play areas look bigger at the Intercon too. I suppose if it's not for us, we can always change next year! We are near Al Jimi - did you use the Al Noor Hospital for its location or the hospital itself. I hear the Emirates International is good too, and it is right nearby, but it looks very small.

Cheers,

Kingy.

Hi Kingy, We are in Al Masoudi - further out than Al Jimi, but we were advised that Al noor was very good, and could cope with most everyday stuff. Their specialists have also been very good. Anything to do with Emergency we were advised to go to Al Ain Hospital,
So far so good!!!

Well Well galssssssss hello !!!!!!!!!

It is about time I have sat down to say hi to you all and see how everyone is doing. Hubby laid down for a nap and while doing laundry, I began to catch up on the forum. So, we are living in Al Ain, Falaj Hazzaa in a 7b/7ba villa with maid quarters and just getting settled in, We have had a few maintenance jobs to get done and with patience it is getting done. We have a gardner who knows absolutely nothing about gardening, but once again... in shallah we are training him LOL. We are in a compound off 8th street with 4 villas in it and our neighbors have become out greatest friends. I arrived here and out of 3 weeks I saw Mike 2 full days. They were flying the crap out of him and it was all Paris which put him away from here for 3 to 4 days at a time. The 2 pilots living here with us took me out and I think I have become friends with about half of Al Ain. I am extremely good friends with Sally who is in upper management at the Rotana and we spend alot of time there and go to Moods. I have been to the Intercontinental for dinner etc.. and also went to the Hilton for the pool party.. It was my b'day and quite a few of us celebrated that night including alot of champagne. As soon as i got here though, i had very hard days of missing home and wondering just what on earth did i do and i just have to go back home but i think that was because my life changed a full 180. Mike has now been given more fly days where he is back the same night or only gone for 1 night. The best day I had was driving out to the airport and I parked at the highest spot i could which was near the airport roundabout, parked my car and watched my hubby come in, fly right over my head, make an approach and land. I had never had that opportunity ever. All of his flying was done from other cities than home and it was neat to see that huge wide body Airbus come in. The next best day I had was getting out and meeting some of the pilots wives who are just awesome and although we are all friends, I have met some of the MOST wonderful people to become friends with and network with for a job and/or teaching position and even better.. bring in a paramedic program here to teach. I look forward to meeting all of you and chatting again.. while typing this one of the pilots is coming in from Kuwait with severe ear pain and tawam can't see him til tomorrow so i'm off to the MidEx compound ( the penitentiary) as they call it cause of all the ignoramous rules they have there and go try and get his ear better. Be safe all and talk to you soon. Let me know next get together.. I know we're going to the boat show either tomorrow or friday and then back to AD for the alecia keys concert and then Dec 8th is Sallie's b'day and its going to be a huge party at the Rotana, then the Hilton pool party in Dec. PS.. looking for furniuture, furnishings, drapery/curtains, wall coverings and a used nice car. I have already found the store Unique and have already become a frequent shopper LOL

Hi all. Just wondering if anyone knows of a place that stocks a good range of Asian, especially Japanese, groceries? Most of the supermarkets have a little bit, but specifically I'm after miso paste and udon noodles. I have heard there are places in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, but I'd like to avoid a 3 hour round trip for noodles!

Cheers,

Kingy.

PS Anyone know where there is a badminton comp for ladies? Wife plays.....
