Hi Auguste
welcome to Al Ain. Why not come along to a Tuesday morning coffee at Paul's in Al Ain Mall from 10am-11.30am - you will get a warm welcome and we all try to share info and experiences to help others get settled. There's also a couple of Mother and babies/tots groups going around and it might be good for you to meet some other mums of young children. There are details of both of these in my blog - http://mbfullemptyquarter.blogspot.c...resources.html.

All the best, M

I have used an agency called Extreme Cleaning 0501787733 - great cleaners but a bit on the expensive side.

I would suggest NMC pm me for any more details as i have been around the block here and now 36 weeks

Default Handyman in Al Ain

Does anybody know a reliable western handyman? I need some holes drilled in my walls and washing machine hooked up and things like that. Ian the handyman who used to advertise on Niala News is no longer doing the handyman jobs... Help?

This sounds like the premise for a porno movie.

Hi, we are in North Yorkshire and in the process of getting hubby's job sorted. he will more than likely be going in January or so and I will follow once all things here are sorted out. Would be good to stay in touch with someone 'local' and to hear what you are doing re furniture etc and where you are looking at staying. It can get quite confusing.

I work as a fitness instructor here and am used to teaching busy classes every morning and every evening....I'm not sure what to expect now!

Any advice or insight you can give me would be invaluable.
Did you end up moving to Al Ain? Have you been able to connect with any social groups? I don't have kids, I just want to make some friends. Also, if you did move there, what have you found in the way of gyms? I'm used to working out daily and want to make sure there's somewhere I can go there. Thanks!

I love all of these ideas, especially the home brewing group! Have any of these come about yet or could they still?

Default Socializing, keeping busy

I guess you can tell from the two posts above this that I'm interested in finding out about how to meet other expats and do some fun activities in Al Ain. I should be arriving in town sometime in the next week and am excited, but feeling a little clueless about what to expect.

My biggest hurdle, it seems, is that I don't have kids (so no playgroup meet-ups) and work during the day as a teacher (so no mid-morning ladies' group for me, either). I also don't attend church, so I won't be pursuing that avenue, either.

Anyway, I'm just looking to make some friends to talk to, explore the city with, and have some fun times with.

Oh, and I work out a lot in the US and am training for the Dubai marathon--are there any gyms in Al Ain? I've heard of some in the hotels, but is that something you can get a membership for or would you have to constantly pay for day passes?

Thanks!!

Good gyms at Hilton, Rotana, also Rugby club. You can take out an annual or 6 month membership, maybe even 3 months at a time. If you hang about the rugby club you will meet a lot of expats.

List of hotels with their GPS co-ordinates (you can put them into Google Earth and "fly" there to see where they are - Al Ain is very spread out) on my blogpage - http://mbfullemptyquarter.blogspot.c...-2-hotels.html.

Good luck with your move!
