Re: Living in Al Ain
What a helpful crowd! Its taken me a while but I've just read this whole thread.
My husband and I have been in the UAE for 3 and a half years, mainly in Dubai with 10 months in Abu Dhabi (which we preferred). The apartment we're in only has semi-quiet between 2-6am and it's starting to take it's toll on us. I'm nearly 5 months pregnant with our first child and this city is driving me nuts!
If our landlord lets us, we're going to break our lease and move out - and we think Al Ain would be perfect! You've given us plenty of food for thought so we're going to drive up tomorrow and check the commuting time, get a feel for the place etc. That Oyoun Village looks sensational!
I just wanted to say how helpful all your info has been and that the average person in Al Ain is as friendly as you then we'll be sorted!
Amanda
PS My hubby is an Aberdonian!

I met a couple of people at dinner the other night who live in the Oyoun Village. It really is as good as it looks on the website and it's in a great location, very close to everything. It is a very friendly community.

Re: Living in Al Ain
We're waiting for someone to call us back from there so when I know I'll pass it on. Hopefully they've got some left! Our landlord has agreed to let us break our lease and depending on when we can leave will depend on any rent we'll have to forego. Fingers crossed!
Have also spoken to Asteco and perhaps someone will call back but got the impression they just had the very old properties on their books.
I think we'll come up on Saturday as hopefully more things will be open. Is there an Explorer book or anything, with street maps, of Al Ain that we can buy when we get there?

Thanks, we'll keep an eye out for that book.
DH works in Dubai at the moment and yes, the plan is to commute but we'll see how the journey is on Saturday. I'm not keen for him to be travelling so much but he'd avoid the city so it'd be less stress. Also, our quality of life would far out weigh what we have now.

Re: Living in Al Ain
Seems the Oyoun village is full but apparently they'll be building a second phase at some point.
Dh says he wouldn't mind the commute, for a month or so he did Dubai-Abu Dhabi... but we'll see. Also, I need to see what the actual drive is like. If he has to dice death on a regular basis it just wouldn't be worth it obviously.
