Default Life in Al 'Ayn

Hi - am moving to Al 'Ayn (UAE) in June - what is life like there for a single guy?
The company is offering an apartment in a new compound - are there any properties to rent and any info on where to look for them ?
I have been based in Jeddah since December (dreadful !) so looking forward to "escaping" from Saudi Arabia.

I lived in Al Ain for 6 months on my own and really didn't enjoy it very much. I think it's OK for families - but for a single guy I suspect you will be bored out of your mind.

If you didn't enjoy life in Jeddah (which I found perfectly okay) then its unlikely that you will enjoy Al Ain as a bachelor. Try thinking of Taif or Abha, but potentially worse.

Visited Al Ain plenty of times during the ten years I lived in Abu Dhabi and more recently since living in Dubai. I like the place personally....not such a rat race although it has its moments. Place is quite green and of course a bit more scenic. Not sure how many expats live there but have seen a reasonable crowd at the Intercon hotel at weekends in the past. Its got some nice facilities. Easy to travel to Abu Dhabi or Dubai if you need to. If you meet up with a few people, I guess it could be a good place to live. I know expats who were working at the airport, al tawam hospital etc...I am sure there are a few others scattered around. Best of luck....I could live there, thats for sure.

Thanks for the info everybody - even if it is quiet I can always drive to the bright lights of Dubai (traffic permitting)
Can an expat buy a car in UAE and are they more expensive or cheaper than in UK ? Are there only married couples in Al 'Ayn no single women?
