I agree that it isn't an apology, but I am now thinking that the article might actuallu do some good considering the coverage and amount of people talking about it. As she is now to be sent on a safe driving course and will write about it, that cannot do any harm and just perhaps a few people might think before putting their foot down. We can but hope.

Of course, it would also be helpful if the RTA stopped their ridiculous fine reductions.

I must agree with you Meow. An Emirati woman admits to the mindset of the Local, I wonder whether the Government will do anything about it?

I'd like to think so, but I'm a pessimist in this respect.

How do you change a mindset that exists, your kids are allowed to drive on the road when they are underage and haven't learned how to drive.

That said, when my eldest was 12 I taught him the basics of driving in a large flat area (Rowda bowl if anyone knows it) so he could handle a 4x4.

6 years later he still failed his UK test though...

What does that say about my skills eh?

just look on it as a small reminder of why they need us in the country in the first place

if they were any good we wouldn't be here ( not that I am but you get my drift )

I wasn't allowed the car I wanted at 17 because it was a 1.2. Dad put a limit at 1 or maybe 1.1l engine for first car.

Buying mine out here (he was visiting at the time), we spotted my Explorer which is what I wanted but then also spotted the monster Jeep with a massive hemi engine...when the bloke told Dad the BHP, engine size and how quick it was...it was again a resounding "I'm not buying it, I know, but don't you even sit in it son, you'll kill yourself".

Sensible parents go a long way to protecting their kids in sensible, measured amounts.

It is also down to the individual. Insurance wasn't such an issue when I passed my test 18 years ago and my 1st car was a 2.0L sierra. As I was in the Army at the time and based in Chepstow I drove home every weekend (220 Miles) without driving like a prick and without having any accidents.

Older now but I have owned some of the fastest cars money can buy and only had 1 accident (Someone ran me off the road) and only 4 speeding fines (I still have not had one in the ME). Its up to you if you wish to speed surely? (ie the individual and their lack of brains)
