the leftbank in old town was better than the madinat one the last time i was there...
bison, old town is part of the burj dubai area...there are a number of bars and restaurants in souk al bahar, which is part of one of the hotels i think, can't remember which one (palace maybe??)...

Al Manzil hotel is also there with good saffer bar, Nezesaussi...try saying that after a few sambuccas.
