I agree completely...you have to give it a go and see for yourself. I've loved it here from the minute I arrived, but I know others on here don't feel the same about it as me...

my mother has cleared off back to the UK, decided to get a divorce at 64 so to be quite honest with you, yes I would be happy if the pair of them cleared off!!!! Put it this way I don't get homesick at all. This is my home at the end of the day and probably will be for a long time to come. I agree though for the millions that are happy here there are loads who come and go.

nope he definately didn't !!! Brave women to go on her own at that age. I respect her for being so strong but it has caused a bit of family hassle as you can imagine!

Me too. I took to the place with the proverbial duck to water. I know it's far from perfect, but there is plenty here to keep me happy. I have a great boyfriend, lots of friends and work is good. The icing is that there are so many good places to go out, plenty of events (well Nov to Mar anyway) and it is sunny 95% of the time.

Whilst there are many pretentious shallow people, they can frequently been avoided - just go to a pub rather than a fancy bar.

Has the first poster thought about paying in cash, rather than flashing plastic?
