Re: Lack of Clothes - again
So...here it is. We are going to be educated on how to dress decently...Finally somebody is going to teach me how to dress like a respectable woman! About time!

While I am currently unable to indulge in any of the three activities mentioned above, I am a big supporter.

But wait, look what was in the DM today,
Girls will have to wear trousers not skirts, from September
Those failing to obey new rule will be given second-hand clothes to wear
Head teacher says some clothes would be more appropriate at a nightclub

Re: Lack of Clothes - again
that is ridiculous- and no girl has ever worn a sexy pair of trousers? I can remember we weren't allowed to wear trousers at school- had to be a skirt- was meant to be knee length but we always rolled them up at the waist, in fact Im pretty sure girls were doing it in the 60's the 70's and every decade since- maybe more sex education and confidence building sessions may help rather than banning things

Just had a search on twitter of #uaedresscode
Holy shit it's gone bat shit crazy. Expats out, personal threats, the works. Just saw they had a poster in Dubai mall removed etc.
This does not bode well for anyone, knee jerk reaction to keep nationals happy and knee jerk reaction to follow when local business owners lose money. It will end in tears for someone just not sure who yet.

How pathetic if the UAE's Arab spring (summer) is over skirt length rather than democracy, freedom, free speech...

This whole dress code / law is just a silly sideshow - there are a lot of other issues in this country which extend beyond the activities of western expats and which are maybe more damaging / offensive than someone in hotpants, for example: child obesity, slave labour maids, the oppression of the female race, driving without respect for other road users, failure to use child car seats etc.
Although I am wearing a man-kini and have just offended myself.

Re: Lack of Clothes - again
The war of words on twitter is now decidedly one sided as most expats have now bowed out, presumably due to legal retribution.
Makes amusingly naive and xenophobic reading.
Can someone who can be arsed start a campaign where all expats take the day off please. I'd love to see the reaction locally to a day just one day with none of us kaffirs working

I was in dubai mall today.
Casting a shifty around, two things became appararent. There a many, many people bearing shoulders and knees. Not all western expats either. In fact, it did make you think, they may have a point.
THere were far more burqa's than i have seen for a long time. Usually there are many ladies wearing a hijab but there seemed to me more women only showing their eyes than I have ever seen before. Widening the gap... (not of material obv, but of values )

Oh but the driving back to AD!! Insane, the worst I've seen for ages. The fast lane must have had 6 or 7 incidents/ near misses having us all swearing like navvies at the tomfoolery.
If a driver like that takes out a friend of mine, i think i'd implode with rage.
Now, where is the twit rage on that?
