Has anybody else come across rumours regarding the introduction of personal income tax? If so what is the source?

Not heard that. Can't see it happening right now though what with VAT rising to 15% next month. Too much too soon. A lot of the Saudis I know earning <10,000 a month are really hurting right now.

Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse. I assume the tax costs now will have to get rolled back up into any expat packages to make sure the net income doesn't decrease - the days of the western expat are surely over.

I'm sure these rumours appear every year or two in each GCC country.

If things were only directed at foreigners why the suspension of the cost of living allowances?

These rumours come around every few years across the region. Income tax will come one day. No body knows when. Enjoy it while it lasts.

I remember many years ago when income tax was introduced. in KSA.
And scrapped almost immediately.
