less expensive if you work for Jumeriah though... Don't they get 50+% off food and drink in all Jumeriah group places?

i agree with the others you are not going to be able to save a dirham on that starting salary, even if your accommodation is paid for, your general cost of living will take up AED 6k easily.

I have talked to a couple of Jumeirah people who are working in the restaurant side and get paid about the same. They all say that they have managed to save.
They have accommodation paid, all food is supplied by an outside catering company, shared gratuities, transport is supplied and they can use the company buses when off duty on the given routes. Isn't that equivelent to a package basic+housing+utilities+transport costs+ food costs+ health insurance+ flight.
They get discounts at all Jumeirah outlets on food and beverage up to 50% depending on grades and Managers and head chefs etc get free food for them and their families in any Jumeirah outlet.
I don't think that it is such a bad deal. Who else has 6000dhs disposable income? I don't spend 6000 a month on taxis/brunches/dinners,clothes etc
Plus if they are good at their job they will soon move up the ladder.
A Jumeirah job on your CV always looks good in the hotel/catering industry.

My concern is the fact that I might not be able to save anything, and potentially spend more

I really have no idea how flexible Jumeirah Group is, but what have you got to lose by asking?
