Default Jumeirah Job Offer

Hi there,

I've been offered a position within food and beverage at Abu Dhabi. They're offering 72.000AED with accommodation included.

At present, I am working in London with its subsequent different annual income.

Do you have any impressions on the city and the company? Is it worth it to move there?

Cheers!

It will be a year. Jumeirah are a good company to work for, that money will be spending money.
They supply accommodation/uniforms/food/transport plus staff discounts and gratuities. I have friends who work for Jumeirah and they all tell me how well they are looked after.
Go for it..I am guessing it is the new hotel? Jumeirah are aways keen to promote from within too so if you are good you will be rewarded.

AED6K per month? Whether that is enough surely depends on the OP's age and qualifications.

AED6000 per month or roughly a UK grand (exchange rates do fluctuate) each month even with accommodation isn't exactly the typcal expat package.

Food and Bev does pay less except at a senior level but unless you're under 25 and after experience as means to better things that's not much at all. You'll need AED2000 per month just to hire or buy a modest car. I'd ask for at least 10K per month - working in the UAE often means longer hours, lots of politics and crap you would never accept in the UK.

Also, ask them to confirm the kind of accommodation you will have in writing - you don't want to be sharing a room or even an apartment if you can help it.

AED 6k a month and that too in Abu Dhabi - it's a frigging joke.

Although i agree with some of the others.....i have a couple of friends who work for the Jumeriah Group and by all accounts it seems a pretty decent company to work for in comparison to other local companies.

I agree - if it was posted today I would have thought it was a wind up given the day.

Hi there,

I am not familiar with living costs in Abu Dhabi but currently in UK I get much more than that, onviously i need to cover other expenses...

I am not sure if 6k would be sufficient to live there.

What are your thoughts?

A good night out in one of your bars would cost you over 500. Depends on how much you like going out and enjoying yourself. You wouldn't save a penny (Or a fil) and if you got into any problems you would have nothing to bail yourself out of the shit. And as someone has already said, check the accomodation as you dont want to be sharing with a boat load of different nationalities. Personally I wouldn't live out here for that, and I don't earn the mega wages of some but I have bags of potential to make a lot more with commission etc. Is the pay likely to improve significantly in a short space of time?

It's a one bedroom appartment, not shared. However putting the accomodation aside, you've mentioned a valid point. I do not know how expensive things are but for that amount paid per month I think it's not enough. Do some of you manage to save some money every month?
Money might increase, probably bonuses but at present how the package is presented is it worth it? In this field should it be more rewarded a relocation there?

To put it into perspective I pay my Salesmen a basic of that and its a token gesture. They make all their money of commission. read the Oooobedoobie thread, he got offered 9k..........

I dont think there is 1 person on this board who would accept that. Don't want to piss on your chips but I would say an 'Average' basic is 3 times that in the ME

I've heard of worse offers. If your accommodation is paid for that makes a massive difference, but with AED6k a month, you are unlikely to save much. Going out if you want to drink alcohol is expensive.
