Question Jobs in Dubai !!

Hi, I am a new member who is moving to Dubai next week. I have a job at SRS School & will be living in Al Qusais (any info will be greatly appreciated (good or bad !) !!)

My boyfriend is coming with me but does not have a job yet. He is prepared to do almost anything (within reason !!!)

Just wondered if anyone knew of anyone looking for someone to do bar work/ restaurant work/ shop work/ work in education (he left a job in a school in the UK)/ or anything else.

Thanks

You do realise that your boyfriend wont be able to work without sponsorship, and that you wont be able to sponsor him or live together unless you are married?

How fascinating.............

The thread title is 'censored' in its original form, but comes up in this reply..........

Anyway, it's true........... it's illegal for unmarried couples to live together....

....... but loads do it.

Education is his only bet out of that list, the rest are normally done by the Asian workforce. Is he a teacher?

Thanks for your replies.

I know about the whole not living together if you're not married thing but have it sorted thanks.

In answer to Blue Cat, he's not a qualified teacher, he worked as a classroom assistant & Learning Mentor in England but I thought schools in Dubai might want classroom assistants anyway. He's also got a degree & would be prepared to take on any sort of graduate training jobs etc that were available.

At the nursey where my son goes, the classroom assistants are filipeno - and, i guess, on a salary of 1500Dh / month...

As for graduate training jobs - I'm not sure if there is such a thing here... furthermore if there was, I doubt I'd want to enrole on such a thing in this country (it would be 'interesting' training).

Most of the half decent British schools, of which there are around a dozen or more, do employ western classroom assistants.

Depends on the school, but salary range is generally in the 6-9,000dhs a month range. However, most schools only employ for these positions on 'local contracts' meaning no health insurance, no flights or accommodation allowance, but most importantly in terms of living here - no visa.

Most of the schools would not consider giving him a job because of his status, which is why most of these jobs normally go to married ladies who are on their husbands visa. In these hard times, these classroom assistant jobs are even more sought after than usual, as families do whatever they can to make ends meet.

As you are not married, you cannot sponsor your boyfriend. Getting his own employment visa outside of the school would be an expensive procedure (circa 20,000dhs for the set up and first year).

Hi there, sand gets everywhere doesn't it???
I know de facto of people teaching in Abu Dhabi schools without teaching pgce or TQL'S- I presume the same might happen in DXB.I understand that ppl with University Degrees can be employed as 'teachers' in National schools i.e ENS, Chouiefat (sp) etc....Find the Ministry of Ed portal for DXB and check out listed National schools-worth an email.
Also, Govts trying to throw together 'special needs' policy.Know a lady employed as 'shadow'/helper for autistic kid......maybe your botfriend could tweek his cv and explore that scenario??His past experience in Educatio
n will be recognised but not particularly rewarded in terms of salary etc however if you are on a good package, the numbers will work for you....
IFIRC...SABIS is ME Group of schools which manage ENS& Chouiefat..
Good luck with it all............
